Long Island Youth Indoor Football is organized under the umbrella of the National Youth Indoor Football League. The League was founded by George Scheld in October of 2004, when his son, Nicholas, asked about playing a game after the conclusion of the outdoor season. After scheduling a game before one of the New York Dragons' games at the Nassau Coliseum, Mr. Scheld examined the feasibility of creating a league, which would be able to accommodate other children, such as Nicholas, who wanted a forum to continue playing football after the primary season ended. One thing led to another and the Long Island Youth Indoor Football League was born. Our inaugural season in December of 2004, consisted of twelve (12) teams in three participating divisions, and was so successful that a second season in March of 2005 became necessary. Just two short months after completing its inaugural season, the Long Island Youth Indoor Football had already doubled in size, to accommodate twenty-four (24) teams in its second season, which was another huge success. Our Winter 2005/06 season has finished with forty (40) teams competing in five age divisions. The Championship Games, played on Super Bowl Sunday, were highlighted on the news!!! Moving forward, the League anticipates a minimum of sixty (60) teams in the Winter 2006/07 season. We currently have teams participating from as far away as Staten Island and Queens to Sag Harbor and Southampton. All of the major leagues on Long Island, and New York City, are represented. |
